Unventilated building elements should perform in inorganic materials.

SkanDek is unventilated elements where the supporting parts, between the vapor barrier and the roof membrane, is made of galvanized steel. In contrast to, for example, wood which can absorb water and nurture molds.  Galvanized steel is an inorganic material, without these problems. At the same time Rockwool insulation material used in the elements, contain only a small amount of moisture (max 8 grams per cubic meters) as Rockwool has no capillary effect.

The unvented roof made of steel and mineral wool. (with a diffusion-proof vapor barrier, as well as condensation within a diffusion-proof roofing) Technically called tepid floor. There will have a linear variation of temperature, from close ambient to close indoor temperature at the underside of the elements.

Why unventilated?

It is suitable at ventilating steel roof elements,  because outside cool air will cool down the sheet profiles, thus providing heat loss, as well as any condensation on the ceiling side.

SkanDek’s moisture technic work as a closed system where the little moisture that will always be in construction would wander up and down depending on the temperature conditions.

Swimming pools.

Swimming pools are a particularly aggressive and humid environment, and here you may have special attention to condensation and dew point in roof construction.

SkanDek can use as a roof over the swimming pools. You should be aware that most of the roof insulation should be located on the cold side of the vapor barrier to prevent condensation.

Refrigerated Warehouses.

SkanDek is also suitable for cold stores, as opposed swimming pools, which have cold temperatures and low humidity. Therefore, construction building has to be inversely compared to swimming pools.

The insulation must always be on the cold side of the vapor barrier and in cold stores will be inside.

In cases where steel roof elements must be in a particularly aggressive environment, or if the vapor barrier located high in the construction, has SkanDek teamed up with the Engineering Consultants Building and Environmental Technology A / S (BMT) to perform the moisture technical calculations?

SkanDek steel roof element moisture technical review.

SkanDek has gotten consulting engineering firm Building and Environmental Technology A / S (BMT) to make moisture technical studies on a different type of SkanDeks steel roof element existing structures.

In their report, BMT concludes that:

“In the examined roofs constructions, there was no sign of moisture in the elements, and there are no indications that previously moisture in the elements. They inspected the items have not moistened at any time “.
