Definition of sustainability

Sustainability covers many aspects of construction, and there are many ways of looking at the sustainable building. There has so far not been a unified conception method in Denmark, and there has been a tendency to choose the considered best method suited to the individual project.

Concepts such as climate-friendly, energy saving and CO2 neutral have been widely used to describe the sustainable construction, but sustainability is more than just one or the other and these concepts are just individual areas of sustainability. Sustainability is an interaction between the three areas; Social, Economic and Environment, and the three areas mast to be weighted equally.

Certification:

Different certification models for sustainable construction have been used to a greater extent in recent years. The most popular are the American LEED model and the British BREEAM model.

DGNB model

Green Building Council Denmark has long been working on a common certification model for Danish construction, and they have now come forward to adopt the German DGNB system to Danish conditions.
